“He is a master storyteller as well as a fine musician
& singer in Scots Gaelic & English.“
Simon freelances as a soloist, and has performed bespoke sets for weddings, funerals and private events as well as larger organisations. He was commissioned to create and perform a presentation of music from Jane Austen’s manuscripts and lifetime for the Godmersham Park Heritage Centre in 2025, and has recorded companion pieces to several albums of poetry by GSA luminary Ian Ricketts, produced by the University of Surrey. Although he specialises in folk music, he also works as part of jazz bands, classical chamber ensembles and other groups across genres.
As a performer he understands that the music for an event becomes part of the story of it, and he works with clients to understand what atmosphere they want to evoke and how to create it. He brings his love of story and emotional threads into his playing.

“This show was like a well-crafted aerial firework display,
with its interweaving strands & colours culminating in three mighty detonations.“
Simon is currently performing his solo show Passages, in which he interweaves history and folklore in the combined tale of three sea voyages, stories of supernatural winds, wrecks, rescues and migration. These brave journeys play out against a backdrop of soul-stirring music and song, charting the hopes and heroic struggles of characters both real and fabled.
